The Ferry Boat Café was the famous horseshoe bar on Seattle’s Black Ball ferry, Kalakala. The artist, Glen Alps (1914-1996) was most well known as a printmaker, but he also painted and sculpted. He made several contributions to the field of printmaking as art, and is internationally known for his development of unique printing techniques. Alps came to Seattle from Colorado. He influenced several generations of artists, teaching at the University of Washington from 1945 until he retired in 1984. His work is represented in museum collections around the world including the Henry Gallery and the Seattle Art Museum. Two of his sculpture installations can be seen in the Seattle Public Library and the Seattle Municipal Office Building.
