This sign that hung outside the Dog House Restaurant features a “wagging” dog tail considered to be the first moving neon sign in Seattle. The Dog House, according to an article by Stuart Eskenazi in the Seattle Times, Nov. 7, 2000, was a “24-hour kitschy diner at Seventh Avenue and Bell Street where crusty waitresses dispensed sass with black coffee and the menu featured rib-eye steak (“tenderness not guaranteed”), peppered ham and eggs (“rye toast 10 cents extra”) and spaghetti smothered with chili.” The Dog House has a colorful history and is most famous for the tagline “All Roads Lead to the Dog House”. MOHAI does have another mural from this restaurant (not neon) that features this very tagline. Bob Murray opened the restaurant in 1934 and it continued to serve people from all walks of life until it closed in 1994.
