Chess set made in 1946 by Seattle jeweler Anchor O. Jensen and depicting the Roman Invasion of Gaul

This intricate and delicately-made chess set features chess pieces that represent the Roman invasion of Gaul (modern-day France) by Julius Caesar in 58-52 BCE. The chess pieces--silver for the Gauls and gold for the Romans--were made by Anchor O. Jensen, uncle to Anchor HH Jensen who designed and built the championship hydroplane Slo-Mo-Shun IV also in the MOHAI collection. Anchor HH Jensen made the chess board which features silver squares on a wood core and a copper rim.
