Order an ImageEdmond James Fitzgerald (1912-1989) was born in Seattle and was a marine, landscape and portrait painter as well as combat artist during World War II. He was greatly influenced by fellow local artist Eustace Ziegler and they had neighboring studios on Pier 9 in Seattle. Fitzgerald’s long and successful career took him to New York and Ohio, but he always loved the Pacific Northwest, returning here to paint. He found beauty even in the industrial landscape of the Duwamish River. This area is now a federal Superfund site undergoing extensive and controversial cleanup work to restore water quality.
