Lee Dempsey (1898-1971) was a minor league baseball player starting around 1918. He played for several teams during his career including the Oregon Beavers, Seattle Giants, New York Giants, and more. He managed the Baltimore Orioles in the International League until 1924, when he became an umpire in the Pacific Coast League. He continued to umpire until his retirement. Lee published a book in 1968 about his experiences in sports, "Confessions of an Umpire." His son, Mark Dempsey (1936-1994), an actor and local thespian, had spent most of his life in Seattle. He donated this baseball to MOHAI as part of a large collection of personal items and memorabilia.
