J. F. Duthie & Company was a small shipyard in Seattle, Washington, established in 1911, that built cargo ships during during World War I . Most of the vessels built were "West boats," or steel-hulled cargo ships, used by the United States Shipping Board (USSB) on the west coast of the US. Not much is known about the artist Amos J. Grant (1870-1926) except that he was from Canada and spent some time in Seattle.
