Display set of medals made by Jostens for the Seattle Goodwill Games, 1990
The Goodwill Games ran from July 20 to August 5, 1990 in Seattle. Conceived as an apolitical alternative to the Olympics, the games promised international goodwill through world-class competition. Over 2,000 athletes from 54 countries competed in 21 sports events at the University of Washington and other cities in Washington State. Television producer Ted Turner created the Goodwill Games in response to a series of Olympic boycotts that occurred between the United States and the Soviet Union. The Seattle games were the second to be held, with the first being in Moscow in 1986.
