Order an ImageStephen F. Chadwick, Sr. (1894-1975) was born in Colfax, Washington. He was a practicing attorney in Seattle from 1919 until his retirement, and a longtime member of the American Legion of which he was national commander in 1939. He was also president of the Seattle Historical Society from 1965-1967 at which time this portrait was probably painted. The artist's signature is illegible but may be Muriel Matthies who was an active painter in Washington around this time.
