This loving cup was awarded to N.H. Latimer for his service on the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition (AYPE) Executive Committee. The AYPE was a world's fair held in Seattle in 1909 which publicized the development of the Pacific Northwest and positioned Seattle as a gateway to Alaska and the Pacific Rim. It includes two ivory teeth from Alaska as handles, and the official AYPE emblem (three women representing Asia, Alaska, and the Pacific Coast of America). A “loving cup” is made with two handles so that a drink can be shared. They are often made as trophies or celebratory commemorative items.
