Coal sack counter for longshoreman, ca. 1907
This counter is held in the palm of the hand with the user advancing the number wheels by depressing the button. It was used by Jospeh Alfred Manshiem who worked as a longshoreman coal sacker with the Pacific Coast Company. He came to the Pacific Northwest in 1919 as a fireman on the S.S. Swiftsure. He worked for the Pacific Coast Company on the Seattle waterfront from 1920 to 1948.
