Carnival glass vase, ca. 1908
Carnival glass is created by applying metallic salts to the surface of a piece of glass while it is still hot. It mimics the look of a much pricier type of glass which is iridescent all the way through (made famous by makers like Tiffany and Steuben). The first carnival glass was made in the early 20th century and peaked in popularity in the 1910s. This donor’s family came to Seattle in 1907 which was around the time they acquired this glass vase.
