Collection of theater coat check tags, ca. 1900-1950
Order an ImageThis is a collection of coat check tags from various theaters in Seattle, including one from the President Theatre (#57); one from the Orpheum (#86); one from the Pantages Theatre (#195); two from the Woodward Theatre (#86 and #142); and two from the Metropolitan Theatre--Ladies Cloak Room (#13) and a square tag (U13). The original Orpheum opened in 1911 at the corner of 3rd Avenue and Madison Street. For a brief time, from 1921 to 1922, the Orpheum was named the Woodward Theatre. It was also renamed as President Theatre. Then a new Orpheum Theatre opened in 1927 at 5th Avenue and Stewart Street. The first Pantages Theatre opened in Seattle in 1904, then a second, larger Pantages Theatre opened in 1915. The Metropolitan Theatre opened in 1911 on University Street between 4th and 5th avenues.
