Alexander B. Stewart (1854-1929) was originally from Ontario, Canada, where he graduated in pharmacy from Victoria College in the early 1870s. He came to the US in 1874 and, after stints in Nevada and California during the Gold Rush boom, he arrived in Seattle in 1882 in what was still Washington Territory. He soon opened a retail drug business and this bottle featuring the "W.T." for Washington Territory is from the store. In 1886, Stewart formed a partnership with Henry E. Holmes, calling themselves the Stewart & Holmes Drug Store. They proceeded to open a series of branch pharmacies and a wholesale division which was the supplier for other drugstores across the northwestern US.
