Order an ImageWilliam Hofius (1852-1912) came to Seattle around 1897 from Los Angeles, California, in partnership with William Pigott to benefit from the Klondike Gold Rush by selling railway equipment and supplies, steel, and machinery. In 1906, Hofius and Pigott parted ways and the company became known as Hofius Steel and Equipment Company. The artist, William S. Sutton was born in Ohio in 1859. He worked in California and his media included watercolor, oil, crayons, and India ink.
