Washington state I.O.O.F. pin featuring the AYPE, 1907-1909
This pin has three components. The upper part has an emblem for the fraternal organization the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.), Washington State chapter. Below is a badge for a 1907 convention in St. Louis. At the bottom is a medallion for the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition (AYPE), a world's fair held in Seattle in 1909. It reads “Meet me on the Pay Streak / Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition / Seattle 1909.” The pickaxe and shovel were references to the Alaska Gold Rush of 1897 and Seattle’s connection to that event.
