A chatelaine, once popular in the 1900s, is a decorative belt buckle or clasp worn at the waist that has a number of chains suspended from it, each containing a useful household item. This particular chatelaine is equipped with a face powder compact, a mirror, a toothpick holder, and a booklet of note paper.
