Brazil was a participant in the 1962 Seattle World's Fair (Century 21 Exposition), which ran from April 21 to October 21, 1962. The Brazil Pavilion was part of the international exhibitions, highlighting the nation's culture and, in particular, its capital city, Brasília. Century 21 leaders proclaimed that soccer was the official sport of the Seattle World's Fair, and Ruy Pereira da Silva, Brazilian soccer star, organized a multinational team to represent Century 21 in an exhibition match with a local Tacoma soccer team on September 6, 1962. The Century 21 team brought together players from North and South America, Europe, and Australia, who are all listed on the trophy. The multinational team won the match 3 - 2 and this cup was awarded to the Brazilian team president da Silva, who subsequently donated it to the Seattle World's Fair organization.
