This copper-colored metal plate is a souvenir from the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition (AYPE) held in Seattle in 1909. It publicized the development of the Pacific Northwest and positioned Seattle as a gateway to Alaska and the Pacific Rim. It includes the fair’s official emblem, which has three female figures representing Asia, Alaska, and the Pacific Coast of America. The other images are all of sites around Seattle, including Washington State University (now the University of Washington), the Public Library, the Totem Pole in Pioneer Square, the U. S. Court House and Post Office, and the New Washington Hotel. Once the AYPE concluded, the fairgrounds became the campus of the University of Washington.
