The Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition (AYPE) was a world's fair held in Seattle in 1909. It publicized the development of the Pacific Northwest and positioned Seattle as a gateway to Alaska and the Pacific Rim. Japan had a significant presence at the fair. There was an official Japan Exhibits Building, a Japan Day, and many souvenirs produced in a Japanese style (some authentic, some designed more for Western tastes). This dish combines a Japanese aesthetic with an illustration of the Palace of Agriculture.
