This gaming table was made in 1893 by Otto Roseleaf, a Seattle building contractor at the turn of the 20th century. It consists of 8,500 pieces of various natural woods from all parts of the world. The top of the table is elaborately inlaid, made up of a central checker or chess board, surrounded by three concentric rectangular bands. The inner band features an over two-under two pattern simliar to herringbone. The middle band is made up of a number of inlaid panels or blocks that include mariner's stars in each corner, and the American eagle, hummingbird, and another bird centered on three sides. Centered on one side is a panel with matching knot holes resembling an open oyster shell, which is flanked by a panel with a branch with leaves and berries, or possibly olives, and a panel with three figures wearing traditional ethnic or period costume.
