The Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI) was established from the Seattle Historical Society incorporated in 1914 by a group of high society members who were early white settlers in the area. Morgan and Emily Carkeek were instrumental in founding the Society of which their daughter, Guendolen Carkeek Plestcheeff, eventually became president and lead the charge of opening a local history museum in Seattle. This gavel was used at the Society's board meetings.
