After her husband left for WWI and didn’t return, her business became a lifeline to support herself and her young son, Paul. From her enduring, pronounced French accent to styling herself as “Madame,” Thiry leveraged her Parisian pedigree to gain authority in Seattle’s fashion scene. Her shop imported clothes that could be sold as is, or used as inspiration to have something similar made. Her son Paul Thiry became an influential Seattle architect.
