This saber and scabbard was used by British immigrant Frank Taylor who served as a sergeant in the Regular Army during the Civil War and later attained the rank of Brigadier General of the US Army. In 1886, Taylor made his first visit to Seattle when he brought soldiers from the barracks at Fort Vancouver, Washington, at the time of the Chinese riots. In 1892, he was a recruiting officer and mustered the First Washington Regiment into service for the Spanish American War. By 1900, Taylor was stationed periodically at the Vancouver Barracks and Fort Lawton until his retirement in 1905.
