The museum’s Collection Manager Betsy Bruemmer and special guest Robert Sondheim\, who served as caretaker of the Hammons House for many years\, will be on hand to answer questions and offer behind-the-scenes insights about this remarkable miniature mansion. \nThe Hammons House is one of the most beloved objects in MOHAI’s collection of over 100\,000 artifacts. It was completed in 1948 and given as a gift to the Seattle Historical Society in 1955\, now known as the Museum of History & Industry. The Hammons House is festively decorated for the holidays and shown with a pair of original portraits that also appear in miniature inside the house.

Join fellow MOHAI members and friends as we team up with City Fruit to harvest apples and pears that would otherwise go to waste. We will donate our harvest to local hunger-relief agencies and celebrate the season with fresh pressed cider made on City Fruit’s own press! \nThe program begins at the Piper’s Orchard parking lot at 10 am. Once all have arrived\, we will walk to the orchard (approximately ¼ mile down a trail). A short orientation will be provided. Weather appropriate outdoor clothing\, closed toed shoes\, sunscreen and refillable water bottles recommended. Best suited for volunteers ages 8 and older.

While earning a history degree at the University of Washington\, he bicycled around the city learning about its trees. He has published numerous books\, articles and guides to trees and other plants. DESCRIPTION:Lesbian\, Gay\, Bisexual\, Transgender\, and Queer (LGBTQ) people have been visible and politically active in Seattle for generations. Their activism has yielded pioneering civil rights victories. Join Historian Kevin McKenna for an exploration of local LGBTQ activism history as well as lessons this past might have for present and future activist work. \nKevin McKenna is finishing his PhD in History at the University of Washington. His dissertation\, “Safer Sex: Gay Citizen-Subjects and the Municipal State\, 1966-1995” examines the history of gay activism targeting municipal action in Seattle and the effects of those actions. He is the Section Coordinator of the LGBTQ Activism in Seattle Project\, part of the Seattle Civil Rights and Labor History Project\, and he has worked with the Northwest Lesbian and Gay History Museum Project.
